How the Three Estates reshaped post-war Kings Norton
Pool Farm, Primrose Hill and Hawkesley grew from major post-war housing development on former farmland.
After the Second World War Kings Norton changed on a huge scale. Birmingham City Council records major council-built development at Pool Farm, Primrose Hill and Hawkesley.
Older housing in Kings Norton village was cleared after properties were declared unfit for habitation, while new estates were built on open farmland during the 1950s and 1960s. Together the new areas became known as the Three Estates.
A later heritage project recorded the experiences of people who lived there, creating oral histories and documents now held in the Kings Norton Library Local History collection. This is history within living memory, not just medieval heritage.
