Why the old village centre is protected

The historic core around The Green has been protected as a conservation area since 1969.

The historic character of Kings Norton is not accidental. Birmingham's conservation-area records show that the Kings Norton Conservation Area was designated on 17 July 1969.

The protected core includes the area around The Green, St Nicolas Church, the Old Grammar School and other surviving buildings and spaces that give the old village centre its distinctive character.

Conservation-area status does not freeze a place in time, but it means the historic character of the area must be considered when change and development are proposed.
