Kings Norton Park: medieval landscape, civic gift

The park’s landscape has medieval roots, but its public future was secured in the 20th century.

Birmingham City Council describes Kings Norton Park as a series of large green spaces and wooded areas whose landscape dates back to medieval times.

The park was formally laid out after Birmingham Civic Society bought it in 1920 and donated it for public use four years later. The original landscaping was supported by an £850 gift from George Cadbury and Dame Elizabeth Cadbury.

St Nicolas Church's distinctive spire remains a focal point visible across the park, tying the open space visually back to the old village centre.
