From 'Nortune' to Kings Norton
Kings Norton appears in Domesday as 'Nortune' of Bromsgrove and later became a separate royal manor.

Kings Norton's recorded story stretches back well before modern Birmingham. Birmingham City Council's local-history account notes prehistoric and Iron Age evidence in the area, while permanent settlement is first recorded historically in the Anglo-Saxon period.
In the Domesday Book the place appears as 'Nortune' of Bromsgrove. Over the following centuries the manor changed hands and leaseholders, before being separated from Bromsgrove in 1564. It remained a royal manor until 1804.
That royal connection helps explain the 'Kings' part of the modern name and places today's suburb inside a much older landscape of manors, farms, routes and settlements.
